Product Information – How To Use
Do I need to tumble dry my gear after reproofing or can I let it air dry?
All of our productions are durable air-dry formulations. However, for optimum performance, we recommend applying a small amount of heat where possible to your newly-reproofed gear, such as tumble drying on a low setting, using a hair dryer or hanging over a radiator. This is to increase the durability and performance of the treatment. If these aren’t viable options, air drying will still result in effective protection.
Should I use a spray-on or wash-in proofer?
All of our reproofers are equally durable. Our Clothing Repel provides all-over protection in one wash, and our Performance Repel Plus allows you to apply extra to areas prone to abrasion, such as where backpack straps sit. So the choice is yours.
Do I need to change the amount of water I use if I live in a hard water area?
You don’t need to worry about what water type you have when using Grangers. All our formulations perform the same regardless of hard or soft water.
Can I use Performance Repel Plus on my footwear?
Unfortunately, we do not recommend using Performance Repel Plus on footwear as the formula of the Performance Repel Plus is specifically designed to reproof clothing. However, Footwear Repel Plus is ideal for leather and suede boots, offering long-lasting protection against rain and stains with added conditioning.
Can I use Footwear Repel Plus on my clothing?
Unfortunately, we do not recommend using Footwear Repel Plus on clothing as the formula of the Footwear Repel Plus is specifically designed to reproof footwear and contains added conditioning making it compatible with all footwear uppers. However, Performance Repel Plus is ideal for waterproof clothing, offering long-lasting protection against rain and stains.
Do I need a tumble drier to clean my down/insulated items?
To fully restore the loft of your down jackets, properly drying is key. If down is left damp it can start to clump meaning it will no longer keep you warm and can look a little odd in appearance.
Can you use G-WAX/Waterproofing Wax on suede/nubuck footwear?
Our protective waxes (G-WAX and Waterproofing Wax) work best on smooth leather. Wax will darken the fabric of suede and nubuck footwear and flatten the nap, giving the appearance of smooth leather. However, Footwear Repel Plus won’t alter the appearance and if the nap does flatten, it can be revived with a suede and nubuck brush, whereas you cannot do that with the waxes.
Can I use a normal detergent to clean before reproofing?
Using a normal detergent will strip away the DWR whereas a technical detergent such as Performance Wash helps to prepare for reproofing and revives any existing repellency.
Can I use your Down Wash and Down Repel with hydrophobic down treatments?
All of our down formulations enhance existing hydrophobic properties without impairing performance.
Can I use Performance Wash to clean climbing ropes?
Performance wash is not a harsh detergent or soap so will be suitable for washing climbing ropes.
- Remove as much dirt and debris from the rope by brushing and shaking as possible.
- Fill a tub or very large container with warm water (30°C) and add a Grangers Performance wash.
- Soak the rope in the soap solution for about 20 minutes, for best results agitate with your hands or stir it.
- Rinse the rope thoroughly with clean water (ideally two rinses).
- Hang the rope up to dry completely before storing it away.
